Dear Friends,
It is that time of year again when the Langhorne American Legion Jesse W, Soby Post #148 will celebrate its 91st anniversary. Every year since the inception of the Soby Post, we have had Memorial Day Services to honor those who have served, are now serving and have died in the service of our country.
During the weeks prior to Memorial Day, members of our Post place approximately 4,000 flags on veterans’ graves in local cemeteries. The color guard and firing squad can be found in fifteen different cemeteries placing wreathes on monuments and fîrlng rifle salutes to our deceased veterans. Finally, on Memorial Day, we sponsor services at our Post home as well as the annual parade in Langhorne.
Our parade committee has already had its first meeting in early September and the work has begun! Parade Chairman, James McAndrew, has been able to secure several bands and numerous other groups to participate in this year’s parade.
We are asking any individual, business or group that may wish to participate to please contact our committee Chairman. Participation comes in many forms; whether it be a float, antique car, marching unit, or donation, your involvement is always welcome.
The annual Memorial Day parade not only brings great joy and spirit to our community, it also is a reminder of our soldiers and veterans who are serving, have served and have fallen for our freedom and rights, Our parade has been traditionally directed toward the involvement of our community and we are grateful for the tremendous support from our friends, neighbors, businesses and municipalities.
In honor of the soldiers, veterans, and families and due to the anticipated costs of this year’s activities, we are now graciously again asking for your support so that we may be able to carry on a tradition which we have all come to love and enjoy. Any way in which you may be able to contribute will be greatly appreciated.
James McAndrew
Parade Chairman
